Root had his most compete performance to date at the 2018 Midwest Winter Showcase. He showed improved ball striking in the field goal portion of camp by scoring 9 points. His big ball on kickoffs at camp was a 62 yard 3.53 seconds. He displayed marked improvement in his punting and is close to the 4.5 rankings. 5 of his 8 charted punts were over 40 yards and he looks much more confident in his punting technique. Root attended the 2018 National Scholarship Camp. He drives the ball really well on kickoffs, keeping the chest up should help him create higher hang time and help him move up into the 4.5 athletes. He scored 24 points on field goals and was impressive throughout the weekend.
