Gaines had another strong showing at the 2022 Southern Spring Showcase Camp. He has a really quick leg and is technically very sound when it comes to his punting and kicking. He scored a big ball of 70 yards with 3.53 seconds of hang time and was able to chart 6 points on his field goals. His big punt at the event was a 52 yard 4.52 second ball. Gaines competed at the 2022 March Ranking event in Texas. He showed improved leg speed and control of his ball striking in all three disciplines at the event. He scored 6 points in the field goal charting, was able to score a 104.45 in the kickoff charting and hit a big ball of 74 yards with 4.26 seconds of hang time.
