2007 National Scholarship Camp Conditions and Charting Specifics

College Coaches – Please look for our camp results by mail and e-mail which will have in-depth statistics on our athletes including their contact information (city, state, zip, phone #’s).

The 2007 National Scholarship Camp ran from July 26th – 28th. Over 150 of the nation’s top kickers and punters were present.  Throughout the three days of camp, which consisted of instruction, it was also broken into four sessions on the field for field goals, kickoffs, and punting.  Only leather footballs were allowed (no composite leather = rubber footballs).  Sessions 1 and 2 had a very slight breeze less than 5mph, session 2 being less than session 1.  Session 3 had wind less than 10mph, and session 4 had virtually no wind and was similar to session 2.

  • For the sessions with wind, field goals were kicked into the wind from 25 – 35 yards, and field goals from 40 – 50 were kicked with the wind (otherwise they were charted normally if there was virtually no wind).
  • Kickoffs were kicked in the same direction every time, with sessions 1 and 3 having the wind at their back, and session 2 virtually no wind.  A double session (sessions 3 and 4) was done during session 3 for kickoffs
  • Punting sessions 1 and 2 were kicked against the wind, and sessions 3 and 4 with the wind.  The following is a breakdown of kicks taken:

Field Goals – Only newer leather balls were used

66 Field Goals over 4 sessions

18 the first session (25L,M,R 30L,M,R 35L,M,R 40L,M,R 45L,M,R 50L,M,R)

18 the second session (25L,M,R 30L,M,R 35L,M,R 40L,M,R 45L,M,R 50L,M,R)

12 the third session (30L,M,R 35L,M,R 40L,M,R 45L,M,R)

18 the fourth session (25L,M,R 30L,M,R 35L,M,R 40L,M,R 45L,M,R 50L,M,R)

Kickoffs –        Brand new Leather Footballs were used (Wilson 1001, 1005, TDS, GST, etc.)

Deduction for using a 2” or 1˝” kickoff tee; no deduction for a 1” tee

Score consists of distance + (hang time x 10) ex; 65 yard + (3.8sec*10) = 103

20 total kickoffs over 3 sessions

                        5 the first session

                        5 the second session

                        10 the third session

Worst kickoff dropped from each session

Punting --       Time constraint – 1.5 (from catch to punt) and under (this is very liberal but most camps have no time constraints at all, and high school punters have not yet developed the college tempo of 1.3 and under); if over 1.5, ball does not count and after two warnings and no counts they have to step out of the charting; they are allowed two more warnings with the ball not counted and then receive minus 10 from their total score from that round.  If they received a total score of 90 for that round it would become an 80

                        Score consists of distance + (hang time x 10) ex: 50 yard + (4.7sec*10) = 97

Only newer leather balls were used

48 total punts over 4 sessions

                        12 every session

Worst punt dropped from each session
